Preventing Periodontal Disease

Brush at least twice a day for two minutes.

Avoid starchy and sugary foods.

See a dentist regularly - get a professional dental cleaning at least once a year.

Correct any dental problems as soon as possible - cavities, crown replacements, crowded teeth, etc.

Take it easy on acidic foods and beverages - including alcohol.
Following these steps can’t guarantee that you won’t be effected with gum disease because there are some risks that are just unavoidable, such as age, medical conditions, and genetics. However, it will give you a better chance of staying free of the disease.
